Jessica Paige Hubbard

Born June 21, 1988 in Kamakwie, Sierra Leone. It was a wild night when she was born. There was a huge thunderstorm and as she was born thieves broke into the hospital pharmacy and stole a large quantity of drugs. When dad got the news in the morning he drove to Kamakwie from Gbendembu and discovered several trees had fallen and were laying across the road. He found a way around them and arrived to see his new daughter. The only girl born in the Hubbard family for three generations.

Grandpa and Grandma Hubbard came to visit her three months after she was born and her first birthday was in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was everybody’s favorite in Gbendembu. Blue eyed blonde baby, easy to find in a crowd.

Kindergarten was with mom, and dad in Gbendembu.

First grade was at Grant Elementary School in Kenosha. She had the same teacher as her brother had in first grade and like her brothers got to attend the school her father attended.

Grade two was with mom and dad in Papua New Guinea in the village of Takuru.

Grades three through five were at the Mount Hagen International School in Mt. Hagen, Papua New Guinea. In grade five she broke her arm rollerblading.

Grade six was at Christian Life School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was part of the band during this year.

Grade seven through nine were at the Georgetown International Academy in Guyana. Jessica helped her mother start a puppet team ministry at the West Ruimveldt Wesleyan Church.

Grade 10 was at CLS. She learned to play clarinet and tenor saxophone and was a member of the school's orchestra. They competed in a national music competition and took second place. She was also in the school choir and played on the soccer team. She was voted most improved player.

Grade 11 and 12 were at the Georgetown International Academy. She gave the valedictorian address at her graduation.

2006-7 Jessica was accepted at Southern Wesleyan University. She played on the soccer team. She only got to play in a couple of teams due to a broken wrist that happened when she was hit by a ball during a practices session.

2007 - Jessica again played on the soccer team.

2008 - May Jessica was chosen by the school to attend a National Sociology Conference in Washington DC. There she presented a paper on the effect of Aids on the learning ability of children with Aids. As part of this project she spend a month in Guyana at the children's home evaluating their educational needs and developing supplemental training programs to help them.

 Special Notes

She was the team captain for the annual sports day at GIA when she was in grade seven.

She is actively involved in puppet ministry. She started learning to use puppets as part of the puppet team of the Baptist Tabernacle in Kenosha, WI. She is now part of the puppet team at the West Ruimveldt Wesleyan Church in Georgetown. Her mother is the director of the team.

She enjoys babysitting and is in high demand. Her aunt who has four boy, two of which are twins is looking forward to her coming home to baby sit this next year.

She has a strong interest in music and plays the clarinet, saxaphone and piano. She has played in the CLS band for one year.

Her mother has given her a number of nicknames, i.e. Lucy, Lu Lu, No one can explain the reason but then that is the right of a mom.

She loves to bake and has been nicknamed the cookie girl by the many visitors and work teams. This year she baked over 600 cookies for valentines day at GIA.

She broke her arm when she was ten while rollerblading. Even so she kept on rollerblading and enjoys a number of sports.

She enjoys scrap booking.
