Jessica Paige Hubbard
Born June 21, 1988 in Kamakwie, Sierra Leone. It was
a wild night when she was born. There was a huge thunderstorm and as she
was born thieves broke into the hospital pharmacy and stole a large
quantity of drugs. When dad got the news in the morning he drove to
Kamakwie from Gbendembu and discovered several trees had fallen and were
laying across the road. He found a way around them and arrived to see his
new daughter. The only girl born in the Hubbard family for three
generations.
Grandpa and Grandma Hubbard came to visit her three
months after she was born and her first birthday was in Kenosha,
Wisconsin. She was everybody’s favorite in Gbendembu. Blue eyed blonde
baby, easy to find in a crowd.
Kindergarten was with mom, and dad in Gbendembu.
First grade was at Grant Elementary School in
Kenosha. She had the same teacher as her brother had in first grade and
like her brothers got to attend the school her father attended.
Grade two was with mom and dad in Papua New Guinea in
the village of Takuru.
Grades three through five were at the Mount Hagen
International School in Mt. Hagen, Papua New Guinea. In grade five she
broke her arm rollerblading.
Grade six was at Christian Life School in Kenosha,
Wisconsin. She was part of the band during this year.
Grade seven through nine were at the Georgetown
International Academy in Guyana. Jessica helped her mother start a puppet
team ministry at the West Ruimveldt Wesleyan Church.
Grade 10 was at CLS. She learned to play clarinet and tenor
saxophone and was a member of the school's orchestra. They competed in a
national music competition and took second place. She was also in the school
choir and played on the soccer team. She was voted most improved player.
Grade 11 and 12 were at the Georgetown International
Academy. She gave the valedictorian address at her graduation.
2006-7 Jessica was accepted at Southern Wesleyan
University. She played on the soccer team. She only got to play in a couple of
teams due to a broken wrist that happened when she was hit by a ball during a
practices session.
2007 - Jessica again played on the soccer team.
2008 - May Jessica was chosen by the school to attend a
National Sociology Conference in Washington DC. There she presented a paper on
the effect of Aids on the learning ability of children with Aids. As part of
this project she spend a month in Guyana at the children's home evaluating their
educational needs and developing supplemental training programs to help them.
Special Notes
She was the team captain for the annual sports day at
GIA when she was in grade seven.
She is actively involved in puppet ministry. She
started learning to use puppets as part of the puppet team of the Baptist
Tabernacle in Kenosha, WI. She is now part of the puppet team at the West
Ruimveldt Wesleyan Church in Georgetown. Her mother is the director of the
team.
She enjoys babysitting and is in high demand. Her
aunt who has four boy, two of which are twins is looking forward to her
coming home to baby sit this next year.
She has a strong interest in music and plays the
clarinet, saxaphone and piano. She has played in the CLS band for one year.
Her mother has given her a number of nicknames, i.e.
Lucy, Lu Lu, No one can explain the reason but then that is the right of a
mom.
She loves to bake and has been nicknamed the cookie
girl by the many visitors and work teams. This year she baked over 600
cookies for valentines day at GIA.
She broke her arm when she was ten while
rollerblading. Even so she kept on rollerblading and enjoys a number of
sports.
She enjoys scrap booking.
